and then he's going to awkwardly stare at her because what the fuck does he even say. stares at lack of leg. ]

but really it does not hurt as badly as it could after waver's healing. that was the difference between her being awake right now instead of still being knocked the fuck out. ]

[ well she's obviously feeling fine if she's joking. probably. she would die if she wasn't joking actually but whatever good enough ]

[ he meant to ask yesterday but got. distracted. ]

I feel horrible every time I vote for someone who I know actually killed someone. I... couldn't do it this time.

And I, I get that, I do, but-- Stephie, you could've died.

[ and he's lying a bit, when he says he gets it, because he doesn't have a huge bat thing with murder, but he cares a lot more about the consequences. ]

I knew I wouldn't die.

[ actually no, she didn't at all. she just kind of just assumed that it would work on some sort of strike system. first the stocks, then something worse like a potential injury, and then maybe death. ]

You lost your leg! [ he's. very distressed now thank. ] You, you could've bled out, it. It only takes a few minutes! We don't even have a doctor!

[ why does he know this? because shut up is why. but also god. why don't we have a doctor. ]

[ her voice is quiet when she says that though. ]

And if Waver hadn't been there? Or if we-- we hadn't been fast enough? You can't die. You just... you just can't.

[ i mean. she very much can. is the problem. but she-- he doesn't think he could handle it. ]

[ there's a pause.

and then she pats the spot next to her on the bed, silently gesturing for him to come forward. ]

[ i guess he'll do that, sitting gingerly next to her on it in silence. ]

[ and as soon as he gets comfortable, she's going to hug him. the position is awkward, since they're sitting side by side. ]

[ ... he leans against her a little during the hug but doesn't hug back because awkward angle makes it hard ]

... I thought you were going to die, too.

[vigilantics]

[ stephanie has done very well so far without crying. she lost her leg, but she'll be fine. she can manage. it's not that important in the grand scheme of things.

but this does it, and between one blink and the next her eyes are watering. ]

I'm not going to leave you.

[ well if she's crying he's crying, so that's where they are now. ]

You can't guarantee that. Not the way things are now.

[ i mean unless another magical door pops us and compels her through, but that's neither here nor there. ]

It's really hard to believe you, considering I've said the same thing before.

[ but it's said with a wet laugh. he'll take it. it's the best she can do and he knows it. ]

We're going to have to try extra hard then to make up for it.

[ at any case, it's not like she can even take any more dangerous trips anywhere. even if she does manage to get mobile again, she's going to be even more wobbly and slower than she already was. ]

[ it's quiet and probably a bit too sincere, but. listen. it's been a long day for both of them. ]

[ he's not sure she was. conscious enough to remember that but. ]

Varian... you saved my life. You really don't have to apologize to me for anything.

[ it's the first time she's actually admitted to her life being in any real danger. ]

[ that gets kind of a. noise. out of him. some kind of horror garbled noise. anyway. ]

I. I couldn't let you die. [ he gives off a weak laughter ] I, I had to think of your blood as ink so I didn't just-- pass out.

You're pretty brave, you know. And smart.

[ it's hard to overcome a fear like that. ]

[ overcome is a big word he did puke after. ]

[ she may not have been conscious for all of that but she at least gotten an overview, so she knows how quickly he responded. ]
